Jill Biden Tried to Pay Her Way Onto Popular LGBT Show – And Failed

Jill Biden attempted to purchase a walk-on role and dinner with the cast of HBO’s series about gay hockey players, placing a $35,000 bid during a charity auction for the show “Heated Rivalry.”

According to Variety, which cited sources, she was outbid. The experience packages ultimately went to two separate bidders, each offering $125,000.

After Variety shared the report on X, Jill Biden responded publicly, writing: “Guess I won’t be heading to the cottage after all—but it was worth a shot!” She was referring to a key location featured in the series. She also noted that the event supported the NYC LGBT Community Center.

The live auction was held at the center in New York City.

“Heated Rivalry” follows two National Hockey League rivals, played by Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, whose competitive relationship eventually develops into a romance. The series is adapted from Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” novels.

Season two is expected to debut on HBO Max in April 2027. Show creator Jacob Tierney and producer Brendan Brady were recognized during the event, with NYC LGBT Community Center CEO Carla Smith praising their work in bringing queer-centered stories to mainstream audiences.

Smith described the series as elevating queer characters as fully realized leads, emphasizing that the production highlights queer joy and storytelling for wider audiences.

Jill Biden’s bid drew additional attention in light of past reporting on former President Joe Biden’s post-presidency financial outlook. The Wall Street Journal reported last year that he was facing a more limited earning potential than expected after leaving office, citing factors including age, political dynamics, and reduced demand for paid speaking engagements.

The report also noted that speaking fees in the range of $300,000 to $500,000 have reportedly been difficult for him to secure, with fewer opportunities from organizations and companies. It additionally referenced broader concerns in the political and corporate world, including hesitation from groups wary of potential political backlash involving President Trump.
