Sheriff’s Update on ‘Nancy’ Brings Out the Critics

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona issued a brief online update stating, “Nancy has been located.” The message led many to believe there had been a breakthrough in a high-profile missing persons case that has drawn public attention since February.
However, the announcement was actually referring to 82-year-old Nancy Radakovich, who was reported missing earlier in the day and was later found safe. The clarification came after confusion spread online, as many assumed the statement involved Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, whose disappearance has remained in the spotlight for months.
The misunderstanding quickly sparked backlash on social media. Some users criticized the wording of the sheriff’s update, calling it poorly timed and insensitive given the ongoing attention surrounding the Guthrie case.
Sheriff Chris Nanos and his department have faced increasing scrutiny in recent weeks over their handling of the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance. While there have been no significant public breakthroughs in the case recently, federal authorities are continuing their work, including the FBI’s use of advanced technology to analyze a hair sample recovered from Guthrie’s home.
