“She’s thicker than zoo glass” — and she’s not afraid to own it.
Missouri morning news anchor Carissa Codel has captured national attention for her side-splitting videos in which she reads and reacts to troll comments about her curvy figure.
In one clip, Codel delivers the line in her signature morning news voice: “Dayuum Gurl, I want you to put a hurting on me like you do those midnight snacks.”
In another, she reads a comment that says, “You look like you could survive a harsh winter.” At 26, the 5’3″, 180-pound anchor of Fox 49’s Ozark’s First morning show has been posting these videos since August, quickly amassing millions of views. One October clip alone has racked up 5 million views on Instagram, where she has 222,000 followers, in addition to 116,400 followers on TikTok.
“Sources say there is enough cake for a triplet’s birthday party — but unfortunately for Josh, he won’t be getting a slice,” she quipped in one video, turning the insult back on the troll.

Codel said the idea for the viral reels came after encountering some especially bold comments, including one suggesting she is “built for breeding,” which left her laughing. The videos have catapulted her to fame beyond Missouri.
Despite some harsh commentary, Codel, who began her news career at 18, said she takes it all in stride.
“It doesn’t affect me at all. I think they’re hilarious… I don’t post the extremely mean ones, but I love the insults that are very creative,” she said. “My family is very thick-skinned, and I’ve never been bothered by a lot of that.”

Her own fitness journey—she’s lost 55 pounds over the past three years—has also made criticism easier to handle. “I find it so funny, like, ‘Oh, you think I’m big now? You should have seen me back then.’ I know who I am, and I know what I look like,” she said.
Some comments take a more suggestive turn, with viewers expressing admiration for the curvy anchor. “Fe fi foe yum,” wrote one. “Brick wall? More like brick house, and I’m looking to move in,” said another. “She gots enough muffin tops to start two bakeries,” chimed in a third.

Initially, Codel worried the comedic clips might undermine her credibility with viewers. But the viral fame has had the opposite effect.
“I think they see me as a more genuine person instead of just a reporter,” she told The Post.
