Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a stern warning following a U.S. military strike on a drug cartel-operated vessel in the Caribbean Sea, emphasizing that similar actions are likely to continue as part of a broader crackdown on narco-trafficking.
Speaking to reporters after the strike—which targeted a vessel allegedly linked to the Tren de Aragua cartel and carrying narcotics bound for the United States—Rubio stated that the era of passively responding to drug trafficking is over.
“For too long, these organizations have exploited U.S. policy, quickly regrouping after arrests,” Rubio said. “Those days are over.”

Rubio defended the recent military action ordered by President Donald Trump, stating the administration is treating narco-terrorism as a direct national security threat. “We’re not going to sit back anymore and watch these people sail up and down the Caribbean like a cruise,” he said.
He described the cartels as highly organized criminal enterprises involved not only in drug trafficking, but also in arms and human smuggling. “These are not casual criminals,” Rubio emphasized. “They are structured, corporate-style organizations that pose an immediate threat to the United States.”
The administration’s latest move signals a more aggressive posture toward transnational crime, particularly operations tied to Venezuela-based groups.
