Tourist Who Gave Beer to Elephant Is Under Scrutiny

A video showing a tourist pouring beer into an elephant’s trunk at a Kenyan wildlife conservancy has sparked widespread outrage and led to official investigations, according to a report by the BBC.

The man, identified online as “Skydive_Kenya” and believed to be Spanish, was filmed at the Ol Jogi Conservancy in Laikipia County. The footage shows him drinking from a can of Tusker beer before offering the remainder to a well-known elephant named Bupa. The video quickly circulated online, drawing backlash and prompting calls for the man’s deportation. It has since been removed from his Instagram account after receiving hundreds of critical comments.

Staff at Ol Jogi expressed shock over the incident, emphasizing that guests are not allowed close contact with elephants. The conservancy has confirmed that the video has been submitted to authorities, and the Kenya Wildlife Service is also investigating the matter, spokesperson Paul Udoto confirmed.

Bupa, the elephant seen in the video, is a well-known resident of the conservancy, easily recognized by his large size and a damaged tusk. He has lived at Ol Jogi since being rescued from a mass elephant cull in Zimbabwe in 1989. The conservancy is home to around 500 elephants and plays a key role in rehabilitating orphaned wildlife.

In a separate video, the same man is seen feeding carrots to two elephants while making a comment about “beer time.” Additional footage posted from Ol Pejeta Conservancy shows him feeding a rhino—an act Ol Pejeta staff say violates their strict no-contact policy for visitors.
