Suspect Identified After Woman Killed, Infant Injured in Fall From Bronx Building
NEW YORK (AP) — Police have identified a suspect in the death of a woman and the critical injury of her infant daughter after the two were allegedly pushed from the 15th-floor balcony of a Bronx apartment building.
The New York Police Department said it is searching for Angel Carrasco, 31, in connection with the death of 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez. Police sources identified Carrasco as Ramirez’s former boyfriend.
Ramirez died after the fall early Tuesday morning. Her 8-month-old daughter suffered critical injuries but was later reported to be in stable condition.
Police said Carrasco should be considered armed and dangerous.
Officers responded to a 911 call shortly before 3:40 a.m. at 2550 Olinville Ave. in the Bronx. Responding officers found Ramirez and her daughter with injuries consistent with a fall from a high floor of the building.
Investigators later determined that the woman and child had been pushed, police said.
Residents described hearing screams before the incident.
“I was sleeping and I heard a bunch of noise, dogs barking and yelling, ‘Oh my God, please don’t do this. Look at my baby’s face,'” one neighbor said.
Neighbors expressed shock and grief over the incident.
“It’s just evil. It’s devious,” resident Kayla Ravagnan said. “There’s no other explanation.”
Another neighbor, Lisa Williams, said Ramirez reminded her of her own daughter.
Wednesday evening, community members gathered outside the apartment building for a prayer vigil honoring Ramirez and calling for greater attention to domestic violence.
Domestic violence survivor Anna Peralta said many victims suffer in silence behind closed doors.
“Unfortunately, nowadays, people aren’t taking domestic violence seriously,” Peralta said.
Police urged anyone with information about Carrasco’s whereabouts to contact investigators. The search remains ongoing.
