Meth is one hell of a drug
Florida Man’s Repeated Calls To Police Lead To Drug Conviction
Homosassa Man, 79, Sentenced to Five Years After Deputies Find Meth at His Home
CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A 79-year-old Homosassa man’s persistent calls to law enforcement resulted in his conviction and a five-year prison sentence for drug possession. On Friday, August 15, 2025, a Citrus County jury deliberated for just 20 minutes before finding George Seely Crandall III guilty of Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Paraphernalia
The bizarre sequence of events began in November 2024, when the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls from Crandall. He claimed there were seven people, along with two dogs and a cat, taking his possessions inside his mobile home at the Oakridge Mobile Home Park.
Deputies responded twice but found no one else inside the residence. Crandall was advised to secure his doors, but he called again an hour later, this time requesting a supervisor.
Captain Samuel Carey responded to the third call. While speaking with Crandall, the Captain noted his rapid, irrational speech, which seemed inconsistent with dementia but consistent with drug influence. As the captain conducted a walk-through, Crandall pointed to a curtain, claiming it was a man’s shirt he had grabbed. He also told the captain that if he waited, he could arrest people walking through the walls.
During the walk-through, Captain Carey spotted a small red bag containing a white, rock-like substance on the bedroom floor. Crandall attempted to pick up and hide the bag, but was ordered to hand it over. Inside the room, deputies also collected two plastic straws with residue.
A field test confirmed the substance was methamphetamine.
Given Crandall’s prior felony criminal history, Judge Fritton sentenced him to five years in state prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Tara Hartman and Elizabeth Colombrito.
