Kristi Noem is no longer leading the Department of Homeland Security, but she appears to still be staying in a high-profile Coast Guard residence along the Potomac River. The waterfront property at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling is normally set aside for the Coast Guard’s commandant, yet Noem has continued to use it even after President Donald Trump removed her from the DHS role in early March, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

Recent sightings suggest the home is still in use by Noem. A black SUV linked to her has been seen at the residence, and Coast Guard personnel say she has been spotted on the base in recent days. Noem, who now serves as Trump’s special envoy for the Shield of the Americas—Western Hemisphere, has previously told lawmakers that she covers the rent for the property herself.

That situation may soon change. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday has indicated he plans to move into the residence, which would allow the vice commandant to relocate into the nearby home Lunday currently occupies.

The living arrangement is drawing additional attention as questions continue about Noem’s broader use of government resources. She and senior aide Corey Lewandowski—who has often been seen at the residence and has denied speculation about a personal relationship—were involved in approving tens of millions of dollars in aircraft leasing for travel and more than $200 million in advertising tied to her public profile.
