A 4-year-old boy was attacked by a coyote in a driveway in Carson, a city in Los Angeles County, during a frightening incident that was captured on video.
The attack happened Tuesday morning while the child’s family was unloading their SUV. As they were taking items out of the vehicle, a coyote suddenly rushed into the driveway and pounced on the boy, biting him repeatedly.
The child suffered puncture wounds to his leg and torso. He was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening, according to KTLA.
“It happened in a split second,” the boy’s grandmother told the station. She warned that coyotes can strike quickly and urged people to stay alert.
Officials say the attack may be connected to other recent incidents in the area. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife reported that DNA evidence has tied the same coyote to at least one additional attack in Carson.
Authorities are also examining other encounters, including another case involving a child in Carson and a separate incident in nearby Gardena. The reports have raised concern about a possible increase in aggressive coyote behavior in the region.

Wildlife officers from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are working alongside the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to track down the animal. Crews are searching neighborhoods in hopes of locating and capturing the coyote before another attack takes place.
Coyotes have long been seen in neighborhoods around Carson, often near homes, parks and schools. While sightings are common, officials say residents should not become complacent.
Authorities advise families to keep young children and pets within view, remove potential food sources such as open trash or pet food left outside, and report coyotes that appear unusually bold or aggressive.
