President Donald Trump addressed criticism from some figures within the MAGA movement regarding his decision to launch a large-scale bombing campaign against Iran.
The United States and Israel began striking Iranian targets on Saturday during ongoing peace negotiations. The attacks reportedly killed dozens of senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Civilian casualties have also been reported, including at least 165 people—mostly children—at a girls’ elementary school in southern Iran. Six U.S. soldiers have also been killed.
Some prominent voices aligned with the MAGA movement have criticized the military action. Media personalities Megyn Kelly and Tucker Carlson were among those raising concerns. Kelly said that “no one should have to die for a foreign country,” while Carlson described the attacks on Iran as “absolutely disgusting and evil.”
On Monday, journalist Rachael Bade of The Inner Circle spoke with President Trump, who responded to the criticism directed at him by the two former Fox News hosts.
“I think that MAGA is Trump — MAGA’s not the other two,” Trump said in reference to Kelly and Carlson. “MAGA wants to see our country thrive and be safe. And MAGA loves what I’m doing — every aspect of it… This is a detour that we have to take in order to keep our country safe and keep other countries safe, frankly.”
The president also commented on Kelly’s criticism, suggesting she should “study her history book a little bit.”
“Megan was opposed to me for years when I ran the first time and nothing stopped me,” Trump said. “Some people are against you at first, and they always come back. She came all the way back. But now I guess she maybe doesn’t like the idea of this war, but I do because I have to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of the Iranians.”
Regarding Tucker Carlson, who reportedly visited the White House three times in the past month to argue against an attack on Iran, Trump said the criticism does not concern him.
“He can say whatever he wants; it has no impact on me,” the president said.
