President Putin is not afraid of Europe. He’s afraid of the United States of America led by me

U.S. President Donald Trump said that while Europe has made significant efforts to support Ukraine, those efforts have not been sufficient, and Russian President Vladimir Putin does not fear Europe. Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the White House.

“Europe has been doing so much for Ukraine, but it hasn’t been enough. And obviously, President Putin is not afraid of Europe. He’s afraid of the United States of America led by me,” Trump said.

Trump stated that Europe has “fallen behind” and emphasized that the continent is undergoing change, adding that “Europe has got to get its act together.”

At the same time, Trump said he views Europe positively, noting his own European heritage. However, he stressed that Europe today is “a different place” than it was in the past.

When asked whether he might handle Putin in the same manner as Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro—by sending a mission to capture him—Trump responded, “I don’t think it’s going to be necessary.”

Trump also said that he has always had “a great relationship” with Putin but expressed disappointment with the current situation. He pointed out that Russia suffered significant losses recently, saying that 31,000 people died last month, many of them Russian soldiers, and added that the Russian economy is performing poorly.

“I think we’re going to end up getting it settled,” Trump said.

The president reiterated that the United States is not directly spending money to support Ukraine, but instead is selling weapons to NATO countries for Ukraine’s defense.

“We’re making a lot of money,” Trump said, adding, “That’s not a big deal to me. What is a big deal is stopping the war where 30,000 people are being killed every single month.”
