Far-left billionaire George Soros and his family have contributed over $71,000 to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ campaigns since 2019, including $31,000 aimed at helping the longtime Trump adversary secure re-election next year.
Records show Soros personally gave $18,000 in July 2024, while his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Soros, donated $13,000 in May. The family also contributed $40,000 to James’ previous campaigns dating back to 2019.
These direct donations do not account for indirect support James receives from left-leaning organizations backed by Soros. The Open Society Foundation has funneled $23.7 million to the Working Families Party (WFP) since 2016, with Soros and his family giving another $865,000 directly to its New York branch since 2018.
James’ ties to the WFP are historically significant. In 2003, she became the first WFP candidate to win a race in New York when she was elected to the City Council representing Fort Greene and surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods. She declined the WFP line in her successful 2018 bid for Attorney General, choosing to run as a Democrat on a ticket with then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo. However, she continued to embrace the party’s progressive platform and received its endorsement in her 2022 re-election campaign.
“George Soros has spent years financing radical left projects, which often result in instability and disorder across our state,” said Michael Henry, a Republican commercial litigator running against James in 2026. “It’s no surprise he is backing Letitia James’ political and ideological agenda, which puts New Yorkers’ safety at risk. When the same donor funding chaos also underwrites New York’s top law enforcement office, the results speak for themselves.”

James has drawn national attention for lawsuits against President Trump and his administration, including investigations into his real estate dealings, fulfilling a 2018 campaign promise. Her ongoing case alleges Trump inflated his net worth for decades, though in August a state appellate panel dismissed the more than $500 million in fines imposed on him.
James has also faced legal challenges. She was indicted in October on mortgage fraud charges related to a Virginia property, pleaded not guilty, and saw the case dismissed in November without a trial. Subsequent attempts by the Department of Justice to re-indict her have failed.
President Trump has repeatedly accused Soros of backing legal actions against him, James, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and other left-leaning prosecutors. Soros indirectly supported Bragg’s 2021 DA campaign, donating $1 million to Color of Change’s political action committee, which spent over $500,000 on campaign materials. Soros and his family have also given Bragg $43,150 directly since 2021, including $22,500 since June.
Soros’ spokesman, Michael Vachon, declined to comment on the donations. The attorney general’s office and James’ campaign spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment.
