A woman threatening to jump from a Tennessee bridge the day after Christmas was pulled to safety by a quick‑acting state trooper, a dramatic rescue captured on body‑camera video.
The incident happened Friday on the Holston River bridge along Interstate 81. Tennessee Highway Patrol officers and emergency crews responded after receiving reports of a woman in distress, the agency said in a Facebook post.

“A woman was in a dark place and was considering jumping,” troopers wrote. “Because people showed up and worked together, she is alive tonight. Today ended with a life saved. That matters.”
Body‑camera footage shows the woman standing on a narrow ledge as officers and EMS personnel spoke with her, trying to calm the situation. At a critical moment, one trooper moved quickly, grabbing the woman and pulling her away from the edge.

She was later seen inside an ambulance and transported to a hospital for evaluation. Her name has not been released.
Troopers noted that the holiday season can be especially difficult for many people. “Stress, grief, loneliness, and fear can pile up fast,” the department said. “That does not mean someone is weak. It means they are human.”
