President Trump was sued on Friday by preservationists who are seeking an architecture review and congressional approval for his planned White House ballroom. According to the Associated Press, the National Trust for Historic Preservation asked a federal court to halt the project until it undergoes full design reviews, public input, and congressional authorization.

The National Trust contends that by fast-tracking the project, Trump has violated multiple provisions of the Administrative Procedures Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, while exceeding his constitutional authority by moving forward without Congress’s approval for a project of this magnitude.

“No president is legally allowed to tear down portions of the White House without any review whatsoever—not President Trump, not President Joe Biden, and not anyone else,” the complaint states, as reported by the Washington Post.

Trump has already bypassed standard federal building procedures and historical reviews while demolishing the East Wing of the White House. More recently, he dismissed the original architects for the ballroom, which is planned to be nearly twice the size of the White House itself. Trump has defended the project, arguing that a ballroom is long overdue and noting that some White House events have previously been held in tents.
