A man is facing robbery charges after police said he grabbed a poodle from a woman walking the dog in San Mateo, California, and briefly led officers on a chase along the highway.
Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 9 a.m. Monday when a masked suspect, identified as 33-year-old David Frankhauser of San Diego, approached the woman from behind as she walked her daughter’s dog, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Police say Frankhauser snatched the leashed poodle, unclipped it, and ran to a waiting vehicle, nearly causing the woman to fall.

Officers quickly located the suspect’s vehicle in traffic and pulled it over on Highway 101. The poodle was returned safely to its family, and Frankhauser was booked on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
Police described the event as “a targeted incident involving known parties” in a news release. They urged the community to remain vigilant, saying, “We need community support in reporting crimes and suspicious activities.”
