Biden’s FBI Knew Brian Cole was the January 6 Pipe Bomber in April 2021
Brian Cole, 30, of Woodbridge, Virginia, was taken into custody last Thursday and charged with using an explosive device and attempted malicious destruction by means of explosives. Cole admitted to investigators that he planted pipe bombs at the Republican National Committee (RNC) and Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters on January 5, 2021, the night before the Capitol riot.
Newly released documents suggest that the FBI, under Director Christopher Wray and during President Joe Biden’s administration, had identified Cole as the suspect as early as April 2021 but did not immediately take him into custody.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino stated that federal investigators solved the case of the January 6 pipe bomber without any new evidence. According to an affidavit, the FBI tracked Cole through phone pings and his credit card transaction history.

The FBI identified one bank checking account and six credit cards used by Cole. Records for the checking account and three credit cards covered January 2018 through January 2021, while records for the other three credit cards extended through November 2025. The FBI reviewed the full transaction history from all accounts as part of their investigation.
The January 6 Select Committee, chaired by GOP Rep. Loudermilk, posted a pipe bomb report comparing it with the affidavit released by former Acting FBI Director Kash Patel. The report noted that in April 2021, the case team had identified a user in the area of the DNC at the time the suspect appeared on video and were analyzing historical cell tower data to track movements. The report stated, however, that it remains unclear why this lead did not immediately result in Cole’s arrest.
The affidavit detailed that Cole’s cellphone connected with towers near both the RNC and DNC on January 2, 2021, with several data session transactions recorded at specific tower sectors.
Family members described Cole as an “autistic recluse” and “computer nerd” who lived in his parents’ basement. His grandmother told The Daily Mail that he has no party affiliation and is not a supporter of President Trump.
Cole appeared in court before a magistrate judge in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
