Conservative commentator Candace Owens is facing widespread ridicule after publishing a series of late‑night social media posts in which she claimed—without evidence—that the president and first lady of France hired an “assassination squad” to kill her and enlisted help from Israel.
In an “urgent” middle‑of‑the‑night post on X that has been viewed nearly 40 million times, Owens alleged that a “high‑ranking employee” within the French government informed her that “the Macrons have executed upon and paid for” a plan to assassinate her, supposedly involving “at least one Israeli.” Owens, 36, has repeatedly clashed with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, whom she has baselessly claimed was born male. The Macrons filed a defamation lawsuit against Owens in July, accusing her of conducting a “year‑long campaign of global humiliation.”

Owens further claimed that her source told her the alleged assassin targeting Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk “trained with the French Foreign Legion’s 13th brigade” and that multiple countries were involved. She has been criticized heavily in recent months for promoting conspiracy theories about Kirk’s assassination on Sept. 10, including her insistence that the accused shooter, Tyler Robinson, did not act alone. In 2024, the watchdog group StopAntisemitism named her “Antisemite of the Year” for spreading antisemitic falsehoods.
In a follow‑up post Sunday, Owens said she had notified contacts “in the Federal government and the White House” about what she described as a “France and Israeli assassination plot.” She also claimed she would soon release the names of the supposed assassins, along with details of international bank accounts in France and Canada where the payments were allegedly made. On Monday morning, she asserted that a $1.5 million bounty had been placed on her life.

“When everything is said and done, and the public learns that Macron allegedly moved 1.5 million dollars for my assassination, how will the world respond?” she wrote. The reaction online was immediate, with many expressing alarm over her mental state.
“This is the bats‑‑t crazy town a few million people a day listen to,” National Review’s David Bahnsen posted on X, referring to her “Candace” podcast. Another user wrote, “Please be aware you are watching a psychiatric breakdown in real time,” urging those close to Owens to intervene.
Mike Doran of the Hudson Institute added, “Bats‑t crazy was two exits back. She just took the off‑ramp to Camp Doolally. We’re now in weapons‑grade whacko country. Someone call the IAEA. We’ve got radioactivity at levels no one’s ever seen.”
