A man has been fined for hunting without a licence near his property in Bentinck Township.

On Dec. 22, 2024, conservation officers began investigating the man’s hunting activities. At the time, his hunting licence was suspended under a 2024 court order following prior convictions under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

During the investigation, officers discovered tree stands and cellular cameras overlooking deposited corn near the man’s home, along with concealed hunting equipment, including a crossbow and bolts, inside one of the stands, the Ministry of Natural Resources said in a news release. A search warrant was also executed to examine photographs stored on the cameras’ SD cards.

The investigation concluded that between Dec. 12 and Dec. 22, 2024, the man hunted deer without a licence and violated the conditions of his court order.

Raymond Piche pleaded guilty to hunting deer without a licence and failing to comply with the court order. He was fined $6,500 and is prohibited from hunting for two years.

Justice of the Peace Moira J. Callahan presided over the case at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 23.
