Sister can’t stop stealing things during visits
DEAR ABBY: I’m having an ongoing problem with my sister, who visits me about once a month. She lives four hours away and usually comes with her friend and her husband. They are my only company, and I used to enjoy their visits, but that’s no longer the case.
After each visit, I notice items missing from my house — things like a hairbrush, my dog’s electric nail file, random dishes and plates, rat traps, laundry detergent packets, and inexpensive craft items.
I tried hiding the laundry detergent packets, but she found them, and I knew she took them. When I confronted her, she angrily denied it, insisting I was accusing her of things she never did and would never do. When I mentioned the beads, she claimed she never saw them and didn’t know what I was talking about.
After that, I didn’t see her for about three months. We made up, but then it happened again. Her husband is aware of this. I once set a trap for her friend, and she didn’t take anything. My sister had also been bringing her dirty laundry to wash at my house to save on water and electricity, which I have since stopped.
What can I do about my sister?
