President Donald Trump suggested Tuesday that Boston could lose its 2026 FIFA World Cup games if Mayor Michelle Wu does not address what he described as rising crime and public safety issues, following a violent street takeover targeting police officers.

Speaking during a joint press conference with Argentinian President Javier Milei at the White House, President Trump said he may call FIFA President Gianni Infantino to have the matches relocated to cities that are “doing a better job” of keeping residents and visitors safe.

“We can take them away. I love the people of Boston. And I know the games are sold out, but the mayor is not good,” President Trump said. “There are worse than her. At least she’s intelligent—you know, some are extremely low IQ. Those bother me more. She’s intelligent, but she’s radical left.”

“If somebody’s doing a bad job, and if I feel there are unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni, the head of FIFA, who’s phenomenal, and I would say, ‘Let’s move it to another location,’ and he would do that,” Trump continued. “He wouldn’t love to do it, but he’d do it—and this is the right time to do it.”

The comments come in the wake of a chaotic incident earlier this month when more than 100 people reportedly took over a Boston street around 2 a.m. on October 5. According to the Boston Police Department, participants launched fireworks and threw cones and poles at officers, setting a police cruiser ablaze in the process.

Larry Calderone, president of the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association, said the mob appeared “hell-bent on attacking law enforcement.”

Boston is currently scheduled to host seven matches during the 2026 World Cup, including five group-stage contests, one Round of 32 match, and a quarterfinal on July 9.

When asked for comment, Mayor Wu’s office did not immediately respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital.

President Trump also indicated he would consider pulling the 2028 Summer Olympics out of Los Angeles if he believes the city is not adequately preparing for the event.

“I could say the same thing for the Olympics,” he said. “If I thought LA was not going to be prepared properly, I’d move it to another location.”

Mayor Wu has previously accused the Trump administration of disregarding the law, saying in August that its policies have “caused fear and harm in our communities.” Those remarks followed administration warnings that federal funding could be withheld from cities that refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement.
