.Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sharply rebuked a reporter on Wednesday who asked why she “refused the National Guard” during the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, as she was being assisted down the Capitol steps.
Clutching the hand of an aide, Pelosi quickly turned toward the LindellTV reporter and appeared visibly frustrated at the question, which referenced the possibility that a new Republican-led committee investigating the riot could hold her accountable.
“Shut up!” Pelosi, 85, barked in response.

Last year, the Republican-led House Committee on Administration released footage showing Pelosi acknowledging she could have done more to protect the Capitol during the riot. The footage, filmed on January 6 by Pelosi’s daughter Alexandra for an HBO documentary, shows the former House Speaker expressing frustration with security preparations.
“We have totally failed. We have to take some responsibility for not holding the security accountable for what could have happened,” Pelosi said in the documentary. “Oh my god, I cannot believe the stupidity of this. And I take the full responsibility,” she added.
In one moment, Pelosi is seen questioning a top aide about whether to call in the National Guard amid the chaos. When told that the Guard believed there were “sufficient resources,” she replied, “It’s not a question of how they had … they don’t know! They clearly didn’t know, and I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more.”
Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) is now leading a select subcommittee under the House Judiciary Committee to revisit the events of January 6.
“While Democrats seem keen on playing political games and doubling down on the predetermined narrative of Pelosi’s committee, Republicans will continue to pursue the facts in an objective manner,” Loudermilk said. “The American people deserve a complete and accurate account of the security failures that occurred on January 6, so this level of failure never happens again.”
Pelosi’s select committee, established in the aftermath of the riot, released an 814-page report in December 2022 following an 18-month investigation. The report accused President Trump of engaging in a criminal “multi-part conspiracy” to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
