Country music icon Dolly Parton is taking time to focus on her health, and her sister is asking fans around the world to lift her up in prayer.
Freida Parton took to Facebook this week, sharing a heartfelt message and photo of her sister while asking fans to keep the “Jolene” and “9 to 5” singer in their thoughts.
Freida expressed confidence in her sister’s strength, adding, “She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!”
In September, the 79-year-old singer was forced to cancel an appearance at Dollywood after complications from kidney stones led to an infection.
Dolly shared a video message with fans during the event, explaining, “I had a kidney stone that was causing me a lot of problems, and it gave me an infection. The doctor said, ‘You don’t need to be traveling right this minute, so you need a few days to get better.’”
Reassuring fans that she’s on the mend, she added, “I was looking so forward to being there, but I’m with you in spirit. Don’t worry about me, I’m gonna be okay—just can’t do it today.”
Earlier this month, Dolly also announced the postponement of her upcoming Las Vegas residency, Dolly: Live in Las Vegas, which had been scheduled for six dates in December at The Colosseum.
In a message to fans, she wrote, “As many of you know, I’ve been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me I must have a few procedures. As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up—though it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon! In all seriousness, I’m not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show I want you to see. You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you.”
Despite the setbacks, Dolly made it clear she has no plans to slow down for good.
“Don’t worry about me quittin’ the business,” she said. “God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet. But I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you. I love you and thank you for understanding.”
