Man killed grandma arguing over how he does laundry

WICHITA, Kan. — A 24-year-old Kansas man has been accused of fatally stabbing his 64-year-old grandmother after an argument over how he did his laundry.
Isaiah Langkiet faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, domestic battery, and violation of a protection order in connection with the death of Elvera Langkiet, according to court records.
Police say officers with the Wichita Police Department responded to a 911 call at around 9 p.m. on Aug. 30 in the 800 block of South Fern Road. Isaiah Langkiet allegedly called emergency dispatchers and admitted he had “stabbed his grandmother.”
First responders found Langkiet on the back porch of the home and took him into custody. Inside, they discovered Elvera Langkiet bleeding heavily from stab wounds to her neck and upper torso. While being transported to St. Francis Hospital, she told medics that her grandson had stabbed her and expressed concern about his mental state. Doctors described her injuries as “near fatal,” including two stab wounds to the neck and one to the throat, each approximately four inches deep.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Langkiet admitted to police that the confrontation began that morning after his grandmother criticized the way he did his laundry. The affidavit states that he slapped her in the face and then, while in the kitchen, grabbed a knife with an 8-inch blade and stabbed her multiple times in the neck. Langkiet reportedly said he was “tired” of his grandmother “b—ing at him” and walked away without offering help.
Two days after the attack, Elvera Langkiet reportedly told her daughter, “That motherf—er tried to kill me.” Although she was initially expected to survive, she declined further medical treatment and died on Sept. 3. An autopsy confirmed her death was a homicide caused by complications from the stab wounds.
A Sedgwick County district court judge has ordered Langkiet to undergo a competency evaluation at Community Care of Sedgwick County, which must report back to the court within 60 days.
Langkiet remains in the Sedgwick County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He is not yet facing murder charges.
