A Texas sheriff who was arrested by his own deputies and booked into his own jail in August now faces an additional felony charge, though a judge has ruled he may return to work under strict conditions while awaiting trial next year.

Johnson County Sheriff Adam King was indicted this week on a third count of aggravated perjury, stemming from allegations he lied to a grand jury, FOX 4 Dallas reported. King had already been facing two felony retaliation charges and a sexual harassment charge.

King entered a plea of not guilty to all charges during his arraignment Thursday. His trial date has been set for August 3, 2026, though the court noted it could be moved up if both sides are ready.

King had voluntarily taken leave following his arrest, but the judge ruled Thursday that he may resume his duties under heavy restrictions. According to FOX 4, the order limits King to being in his office only three days a week between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. He is barred from contacting seven witnesses in the case—most of them employees of his department—and must use a private entrance to access his office.

The accusations against King were uncovered during a Texas Rangers investigation. Several women employed by the sheriff’s office allege that King repeatedly made inappropriate remarks about their appearance, weight, and clothing, and pressured them to wear makeup. In some cases, he allegedly suggested married women could receive perks if they spent time with him.

One woman told investigators that King said if she kept losing weight, he would “do ungodly things” to her. On another occasion, when she wore white pants to work, King allegedly remarked, “Back in my younger days, you wouldn’t want to know what I did to women wearing white pants.”

Court records also describe an office tea gathering in which King told female staff, “Don’t tell people—or your husbands—the sheriff puts his cream in your tea.”

After two employees reported the harassment, prosecutors say King retaliated by threatening them, including telling one woman he could have her arrested.

King was first arrested in August, with his own deputies booking him into the county jail before he posted bond. During his leave of absence, Capt. Ben Arriola stepped in as acting sheriff.
