Netflix Faces Growing Backlash Over Children’s Show Featuring Lesbian Kiss More Outrage and Subscription Cancellations
Netflix is under fire after a scene showing two teenage girls kissing in its children’s animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous went viral on social media.
The scene, from episode nine of the show’s fifth season, has sparked outrage among parents and critics who say the content is inappropriate for children. A screenshot of the moment has been viewed over seven million times on X (formerly Twitter), with thousands of users announcing subscription cancellations in protest.
“This is from a children’s cartoon on Netflix called Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. Since when has something like this been considered appropriate for children?!” one post read.

The controversy isn’t new. In 2022, Hungary’s National Media and Communications Authority opened an investigation into Netflix, citing its 2021 law that restricts LGBT-themed material in children’s programming. The Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet reported that the series is marketed toward children as young as seven years old.
The uproar comes as Netflix faces renewed scrutiny over other kids’ programming. Dead End: Paranormal Park—a cartoon featuring transgender themes and profanity-laced statements from its creator, Hamish Steele—triggered further outrage after billionaire Elon Musk announced he had canceled his subscription, urging others to do the same.
“Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids,” Musk posted earlier this week.

Netflix has not yet issued a statement in response to the latest controversy. However, the backlash appears to be affecting the company’s bottom line. Following Musk’s announcement, Netflix shares (NFLX) have slipped roughly 1.4%, falling from $1,175.49 at the open on October 1 to $1,158.84 by midday October 3.
With pressure mounting from subscribers, regulators, and public figures, the streaming giant could soon be forced to rethink its programming strategy for children’s content.
