ABC Caves, Sinclair Responds by Pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live! From Affiliate Stations
September 23, 2025 — Sinclair Broadcast Group announced Monday evening that it will no longer air Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC affiliate stations, following controversy over comments made by the late-night host.
Earlier in the day, ABC confirmed that Jimmy Kimmel would return to the air after a brief suspension. Kimmel had been taken off the air for remarks he made regarding the recent assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at an event at Utah Valley University earlier this month.

In a recent monologue, Kimmel suggested that the suspect in the shooting was aligned with right-wing ideology, a statement critics say was false and misleading. The suspect, Tyler Robinson, has since been identified as having expressed opposition to Kirk’s political views, and law enforcement reports describe him as holding far-left, pro-transgender beliefs.
Sinclair responded to ABC’s decision to reinstate Kimmel by pulling his show from its lineup.
“Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming,” the company said in a statement. “Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”
Neither ABC nor representatives for Jimmy Kimmel Live! have issued further comment as of Monday evening.
