Comedy Central has temporarily pulled reruns of a recent South Park episode that satirized conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The episode, titled “Got a Nut,” remains available for streaming on Paramount+, but sources tell Deadline its removal from cable is a precaution due to current political tensions.

The episode, which aired last month, parodied Kirk’s well-known “Prove Me Wrong” debate tactic. It featured the character Cartman as a right-wing podcaster and self-described “master debater.” In addition to Kirk, the episode also targeted ICE and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem.

Following Kirk’s death on Wednesday, some of his supporters suggested the show contributed to a hostile climate. According to the New York Post, one staff member at Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded, commented on Telegram: “Comedy has consequences. Charlie was targeted in the culture before he was targeted in real life.”

Despite the controversy, Kirk appeared to take the parody in stride when it first aired. He called the episode “hilarious” in an interview with Fox News, saying, “We as conservatives should be able to take a joke—we shouldn’t take ourselves so seriously.” On August 6, he posted a clip of the episode on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption “Not bad, Cartman,” and even temporarily changed his profile picture to an image of the character.
