WATCH! Brave Texas Student Confronts Classmates Laughing at Charlie Kirk Assassination Video — Professor Kicked Her Out for Speaking Up

Denton, TX — A student at the University of North Texas is speaking out after she says she was mocked, harassed, and ultimately removed from a classroom for defending conservative commentator Charlie Kirk—just hours after his assassination during a campus debate.

Mary Catherine, a UNT student, shared her experience in an emotional TikTok video, describing the disturbing events that took place in her quantitative methods class. According to her account, students not only discussed Kirk’s shooting, but allegedly celebrated the violence—some even cheering and clapping while watching footage of the incident.

“They were passing around the video of Charlie getting shot,” she said. “When it ended, they clapped. They laughed. They said things like, ‘This is the best day ever,’ and, ‘This should happen to Trump next.’”

When Mary Catherine objected, condemning the behavior and trying to bring attention to the inappropriateness of the conversation, she says the class turned hostile. She claims she was shouted down and confronted physically by at least one student.

What she found even more troubling was the reaction of the professor.

“He watched it all happen and then came up to me—not the other students—and said, ‘You all should probably take this outside,’ and then laughed,” she recalled. “I was in shock.”

Feeling unsafe, Mary Catherine left the classroom and went directly to the Dean of Students’ office. On her way there, she learned that Charlie Kirk had succumbed to his injuries, a moment that brought her to tears.

Despite reporting the incident, she says university officials told her there was little they could do. She was eventually directed to the Department of Psychology, where she says she received little support and was met with indifference.

“I just wanted my absence excused,” she explained. “I was forced to leave that classroom because I didn’t feel safe—because I stood up for something I believe in.”

Mary Catherine emphasized that, regardless of one’s political views, celebrating someone’s death should never be acceptable in a university setting.

“I can sleep at night knowing I stood up for what’s right,” she said. “But it hurts to see how many people think it’s okay to laugh at someone’s murder just because they disagreed with him politically.”

Her story has since drawn attention from local leaders. Representative Andy Hopper, who serves Texas House District 64, stated he has reached out to UNT President Harrison Keller, Ph.D., to address the situation.

The University of North Texas has not yet released a public statement in response to the allegations.
