Woke’s Not Dead: Transgender Model Returns as Victoria’s Secret Angel for 2025 Runway Show
by Alana Mastrangelo
Model Alex Consani has been announced as one of Victoria’s Secret’s newest Angels for its upcoming 2025 runway show, marking another milestone in a career that continues to challenge traditional norms in the fashion industry.
“Can’t stop smiling! So happy to have the opportunity to shoot with the baddest group of girls and the best team there is!” Consani shared on Instagram Wednesday, posting behind-the-scenes images from the photoshoot. The photos highlighted her involvement in the upcoming campaign and included various styling tools used during production.
Consani first walked for Victoria’s Secret in 2024, joining a growing number of transgender models featured by the brand, including Valentina Sampaio. Her work with the iconic lingerie label is just one part of a rapidly rising career.
Last year, Consani made history at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London, becoming the first transgender model to win the coveted Model of the Year title. She has also walked the runway for major fashion houses like Chanel and Stella McCartney.

“I’m the first trans woman to win this award,” Consani said during her acceptance speech. “But I can’t accept this award without thinking of those that came before me — specifically the Black trans women who really fought for this space that I’m in tonight.” She also thanked her parents for supporting her modeling ambitions from the age of 12. “That’s something I think a lot of other parents of trans children should follow.”
Consani gained early popularity through TikTok, where she now has more than six million followers. After signing with IMG Models in 2019, she made her runway debut with Tom Ford in 2021.
The Model of the Year award is determined by both industry experts and a public vote. It recognizes individuals who have significantly impacted the global fashion scene in the past year. In 2023, Black transgender model Kai-Isaiah Jamal was nominated for the award, which was ultimately won by plus-size model Paloma Elsesser.
Consani’s continued presence on major runways and in high-profile campaigns reflects the evolving landscape of fashion, where diversity and inclusion are increasingly at the forefront.
