Trump Warns Hamas: ‘Last Warning’; Hostage Deal or Else

President Donald Trump has issued what he described as a “last warning” to Hamas, calling on the group to accept a U.S.-backed proposal to release hostages held in Gaza. Trump said Israel has already agreed to the deal and predicted a breakthrough “very soon.”

Speaking to reporters in Washington after attending the U.S. Open final in New York, Trump expressed optimism: “I think we’re going to get them all.” According to reports, 48 hostages remain in Gaza, with about 20 believed to still be alive.

While the White House has not disclosed specific terms of the proposed agreement, Reuters reported that Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar confirmed Israel’s acceptance of the deal on Monday. NBC News said Israeli officials did not immediately comment.

Hamas acknowledged on Sunday that it had received “some ideas” via U.S. mediators and was engaging in discussions to turn them into a “comprehensive agreement.”

Trump’s statement was echoed by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who also issued a stern warning to Hamas, demanding the release of hostages and a surrender of arms—or face the total destruction of Gaza.

Israel’s military continues its push to capture Gaza City, a move that could displace hundreds of thousands more people. Many in the area have already been displaced multiple times since the conflict began.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump claimed Israel had “accepted my terms” and urged Hamas to do the same, warning of serious consequences if the group does not comply. “This is my last warning,” he wrote.

Israeli Channel 12 News reported that under the proposed deal, all 48 hostages would be released on the first day, in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners. The agreement would also see Israel halt plans to occupy Gaza City and begin broader negotiations to end the war.

Hamas responded by reiterating its willingness to negotiate the release of hostages in return for “a clear declaration of an end to the war” and a “full withdrawal” of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Former Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz voiced support for the deal on X (formerly Twitter), urging the government and opposition parties to back it fully.

The conflict began after Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, killed approximately 1,200 people and resulted in around 250 hostages being taken into Gaza. In response, Israel launched a military campaign that Palestinian health officials say has since killed more than 64,000 people, including thousands of children, and displaced the majority of Gaza’s population.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Ramon Airport near Eilat was briefly closed on Sunday after a drone attack launched from Yemen struck the arrivals hall. Two people were injured by shrapnel. The airport resumed operations shortly afterward. The Houthi militant group claimed responsibility, saying it would continue its support for Gaza.
