The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) released dashcam footage this week showing a high-speed pursuit in Webb County involving a suspected human smuggling case. The driver, identified by authorities as a 14-year-old, was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Malibu and reportedly struck several vehicles during the chase, including a DPS patrol car.
After the vehicle came to a stop, six individuals fled from the car but were quickly apprehended by law enforcement and turned over to U.S. Border Patrol. According to DPS, all six were in the country illegally.
Both the teenage driver and a passenger were taken into custody and could face charges related to human smuggling. DPS also stated that the driver is a Mexican national who entered the country illegally.

This incident comes amid ongoing efforts by Texas officials to address illegal immigration through initiatives like Operation Lone Star. Launched in 2021 by Governor Greg Abbott, the operation aims to deter unlawful border crossings, intercept human smugglers, and combat drug trafficking, particularly the flow of fentanyl.
Federal immigration enforcement has remained a politically charged issue, with contrasting policies between recent administrations. Law enforcement agencies in Texas have continued to coordinate with federal authorities to address border-related crimes.
Under Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, the federal government is tasked with protecting states from invasion and ensuring domestic security. Officials in Texas have frequently cited this clause in their calls for stronger federal action on border enforcement.
