A frightening scene unfolded on a Long Island highway last Wednesday when a car flew through the air, crossing six lanes of traffic in a crash caught on dashcam.
According to the New York Post, the incident occurred on Sunrise Highway in New York, where a 70-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2012 Honda experienced a medical emergency—reportedly a seizure—that caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
Dashcam footage shows the car launching off an embankment from a service road, hurtling through the air and completely clearing the eastbound lanes before crash-landing on the westbound side. The car then came to rest in a vegetated area beyond the highway.

The elderly driver cleared the highway and landed up against a tree on the other side. Miraculously, he only sustained minor injuries and nobody else was hurt.

“The driver had a medical episode causing him to lose control and go flying up the embankment on the service road, over both the westbound and eastbound lanes, and landed in the embankment down the eastbound side,” said Dennison DeNatalie, a spokesperson for the Bay Shore Fire Department.
Remarkably, no other vehicles were struck during the dramatic airborne crash, and the driver sustained only minor injuries. He was transported to South Shore University Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Emergency responders and witnesses expressed shock at the sheer trajectory and distance the car traveled. Despite the intense visuals, officials confirmed that the outcome could have been far worse.
