In a bizarre incident that has to be seen to be believed, a driver in Mississauga was spotted cruising down a busy street with an enormous metal staircase strapped to the roof of her car.
Peel Regional Police responded to reports of a Mazda travelling along Queensway East near Cawthra Road—its rooftop cargo turning heads and raising serious safety concerns.
A 22-year-old woman from Woodbridge has since been charged with careless driving after officers caught her with the industrial-sized staircase affixed to the top of her vehicle.
Constable Tyler Bell-Morena explained that the unusual situation began when the driver apparently reversed into the staircase near Queensway and Dixie Road.
“For reasons we really don’t understand,” Bell-Morena said, “she then continued driving all the way down the Queensway with it still attached to the car, until police intervened.”
“We’re not really sure what the heck was going on there,” he added.
The origin of the staircase remains unclear.
Another video, shared on TikTok and reposted to X (formerly Twitter), shows the car pulled over in a residential neighborhood, with an officer and the driver standing beside the vehicle and its odd rooftop load.
