Miss Palestine to Compete in Miss Universe
This November, Nadeen Ayoub will make history as the first-ever Miss Palestine to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
The 27-year-old, who was crowned Miss Palestine in 2022, announced her participation with a powerful message: “I carry the voice of a people who refuse to be silenced.” Ayoub’s journey to the Miss Universe stage is deeply personal and political, coming at a time of immense humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Since the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023—which killed 1,200 people and resulted in 251 hostages—Israel has launched an extensive military campaign in Gaza. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, cited by the Associated Press, more than 62,000 people have been killed and over 156,000 injured.
Amid this devastating backdrop, Ayoub says her mission goes beyond beauty. She seeks to challenge global perceptions of Palestinians, amplify the voices of women and children, and highlight resilience over suffering.
Ayoub will stand among contestants from over 130 countries and territories, including Israel, which will be represented by Melanie Shiraz.
A Voice for Change
Born and raised in Palestine, the U.S., and Canada, Ayoub holds degrees in Literature and Psychology and works as a fitness and nutrition coach. She also founded the Olive Green Academy, an agency focused on sustainable content creation and AI innovation.
Her entry into the world of pageantry followed her graduation from university, after which she became a mental health and fitness mentor for women in the West Bank. Her advocacy spans sustainability, wellness, and female empowerment.
Ayoub told The National she initially planned to participate in Miss Universe after competing in Miss Earth 2022 but delayed due to the escalation of violence in Gaza. “I wanted to stay behind the scenes,” she said. “The spotlight needed to be on the people suffering in Palestine, not on me.”
Now, she’s stepping forward to raise global awareness. In materials shared with Newsweek, her team emphasized her goal to humanize Palestinians and challenge harmful stereotypes. “Palestinian women are not only resilient and beautiful—they are leaders, innovators, and changemakers,” the statement read.
A Historic Milestone
Ayoub’s participation comes as momentum builds globally to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state—a position supported by a majority of Americans, according to recent polls.
In a post on Instagram, Ayoub wrote:
“For the first time ever, Palestine will be represented at Miss Universe. Today, I step onto that stage not just with a title—but with a truth… We are more than our suffering—we are resilience, hope, and the heartbeat of a homeland that lives on through us.”
The Miss Universe 2025 pageant will take place on November 21, 2025. After the event, Ayoub plans to pass on her Miss Palestine title.
