For the smash burgers:
– 500g lean beef mince
– 1 tsp garlic granules
– 1 tsp onion granules
– Salt and pepper
– 2 slices of cheese
– 2 brioche buns
– Low fat mayo (Optional)
For the French onion dip:
75g butter
1 white onion sliced
1 tsp garlic puree
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
170ml beef stock
Gravy granules, to thicken
Method:
1. Heat a little butter in a pan over medium-high heat.
2. Add the chopped onion and cook for about 10 minutes until browned.
3. Stir in the garlic purée, dried thyme, Worcestershire sauce, and beef stock. Mix well and simmer until the sauce thickens. If it’s still too runny, stir in some gravy granules to thicken.
4. Meanwhile, make the burger patties. In a bowl, combine the beef mince with garlic granules, onion granules, salt, and pepper. Mix well, then form into four balls.
5. Add one mince ball to the hot pan. Place a sheet of greaseproof paper on top and firmly press down to smash it into a patty.
6. Cook for 3–4 minutes, flip, add a slice of cheese, and cook for another 3–4 minutes until the cheese melts. Repeat for the remaining patties.
7. Assemble
