Ten Men Jailed for More Than 130 Years After Mother and Girl Set on Fire in Revenge Arson Attack

Ten men have been sentenced to a combined total of more than 130 years after a revenge attack in Stoke-on-Trent left a mother and a 13-year-old girl with horrific burns and life-changing injuries.

The attack happened on December 16, 2021, after a violent confrontation earlier that day in Longton. According to Staffordshire Police, a fight broke out around 4 p.m. on Kildare Street involving Naveed Hussain, Bilal Ahmed, Kashif Ahmed and Ali Abbas. During that fight, Kashif Ahmed suffered a stab wound to his shoulder and later went to hospital for treatment. Staffordshire Police

Hours later, at about 10:55 p.m., a group of men went to a home on Beverley Drive in Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent, demanding to speak to Hussain. The men smashed downstairs windows and poured petrol into the hallway and outside the living room window before setting the house alight.

Inside were a 31-year-old mother and a 13-year-old girl.

Police said the mother was struck on the head and set on fire. She suffered burns to 65 percent of her body and was not expected to survive. She spent two months in a coma and continues to require lifelong medical treatment. The girl suffered burns to 15 percent of her right arm and required skin grafts. Staffordshire Police

To escape the flames, both victims smashed an upstairs bedroom window and jumped. The mother suffered a broken pelvis, broken ribs and a lacerated liver in the fall. She later had to learn to walk again.

The case led to an 11-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court, which concluded in February 2026. Several defendants had already admitted charges before the trial began. Seven men were sentenced Friday at Leicester Crown Court, sitting at Loughborough, while three others had previously been sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Three men were jailed for attempted murder.

Shakil Uddin, 23, of Oldham, received the longest sentence: 34 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

Ali Abbas, 23, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, was jailed for 25 years after admitting two counts of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

Haris Mahmood, of Normacot, was jailed for 24 years and nine months after admitting two counts of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

Riyadh Iqbal, 23, of Normacot, was jailed for 12 and a half years after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent to endanger life.

Lukman Khan, 25, also of Normacot, received the same sentence: 12 and a half years for grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent to endanger life.

Muhammad Sufyaan-Shah, 25, of Oldham, was jailed for 11 and a half years after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Tayyeb Majeed, 24, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, was jailed for 10 and a half years after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Three others were sentenced over the earlier violent disorder. Kashif Ahmed, 26, of Hanley, was jailed for 48 weeks after pleading guilty to violent disorder. Naveed Hussain, 32, of Longton, received a six-month sentence suspended for 18 months after pleading guilty to violent disorder and possession of a knife or sharp pointed article in a public place. Bilal Ahmed, 27, of Normacot, received a 15-month sentence suspended for 18 months after pleading guilty to violent disorder. Staffordshire Police

Staffordshire Police said the investigation relied on CCTV, digital evidence and specialist forensic work to establish each man’s role.

Detective Constable Howard Davies, from the force’s Major Investigations Department, called the violence “truly shocking” and said the attack had left the mother with life-changing injuries. He praised the victims’ “incredible strength and resilience” and said police hoped the sentences would send a clear message that such violence would not be tolerated.

The attack was not a momentary street fight that went too far. It was a revenge mission that ended with petrol poured into a home and two innocent people forced to jump from an upstairs window to escape being burned alive. The combined sentence of more than 130 years reflects the scale of the brutality, but the mother and child will carry the consequences long after the court case is over.
