Ohio Man Arrested After Stealing Police Cruiser, Then Calling 911 to Complain About the Seat
An Ohio man was arrested after allegedly stealing a police cruiser, leading officers on a short pursuit, and then calling 911 to complain that the stolen vehicle’s seat was “uncomfortable,” according to authorities.
Police in Trumbull County said the incident began when officers responded to a disturbance call involving a man behaving erratically near a gas station. As officers attempted to speak with him, the man reportedly jumped into an unattended patrol vehicle and sped away.
Dispatch audio released by the sheriff’s office captured the suspect calling 911 from inside the stolen cruiser. In the call, he told dispatchers he wanted to report “a problem with the seat,” saying it was hurting his back and that “you guys need better cars.” He also complained that the air conditioning “wasn’t cold enough.”
Deputies located the cruiser minutes later and initiated a pursuit. The suspect eventually stopped the vehicle and surrendered without incident. No injuries were reported.
He was charged with felony theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and misuse of the 911 system.
Law enforcement officials said the suspect’s complaint call was “one of the strangest” they had ever received. The sheriff’s office noted that the cruiser’s interior was undamaged, aside from mud tracked in during the theft.
The incident drew widespread attention online due to the unusual combination of a stolen police vehicle and a suspect who phoned emergency services to criticize its comfort.
