Paranormal influencer dies after destroying ‘cursed’ statue to test ‘how long I can live’

A social media influencer has passed away at just 24-years-old, weeks after demolishing a purportedly cursed sculpture. Well-known digital creator Jiang Xiaorou sparked outrage after she shattered a statue representing Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, in August 2025.

Jiang’s footage documenting her destruction of the sculpture portraying the Buddhist deity generated significant buzz when it surfaced online last year.

At the time, Jiang reportedly claimed she was conducting an experiment to observe what repercussions her behavior would trigger. Jiang informed her audience, while breaking apart the clay sculpture, that she wanted to discover how much time she had left as part of a superstition experiment, stating: “Let’s see how long I can live.”

It comes after a ‘time traveler’ from the year 4413 made a terrifying claim about the future of humanity.

After Jiang’s demolition of the sculpture, her audience condemned what she’d done, labeling the act “disrespectful”.

Several online commenters have connected the footage of Jiang demolishing the sculpture to her untimely passing at such a young age.

Jiang was a prominent digital content creator with more than one million followers on Douyin, a widely used social media platform in China, which serves as the Chinese equivalent of TikTok.

The majority of her material focused on supernatural phenomena and deserted structures, along with her fascination with the paranormal realm overall.

Reports indicate the polarizing social media personality succumbed to injuries from a vehicle collision that occurred earlier this month on August 10, just over a month following her last upload on July 9, in which she dialed numbers recommended by her audience.

The Tab reported that Jiang was traveling from Guangxi to Guangzhou when her vehicle crashed into another car.

Local news outlets subsequently confirmed that Jiang was transported to Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital, where medical staff treated her injuries, though she ultimately passed away. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

In a post shared on her Douyin profile, her relatives issued a statement urging the public to avoid “spreading unverified information” regarding their loved one’s passing.

They said: “Here, her family and friends earnestly request everyone: respect the facts, refrain from spreading unverified information, do not forward content involving privacy, and please stop making excessive speculations about her and her family.

“For those who wish to express their condolences, please let your concern be expressed as a quiet blessing, so that she may remain dignified and respectable in everyone’s memory.

“Thank you again for your support of Jiang Xiaorou. May she rest in peace, and please allow her friends the necessary privacy.” Meanwhile, Isaac Newton’s 1704 doomsday prophecy predicted the year the world would end.
