28 Toed Kitten Found In Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — Most cats have 18 toes.

Toby has 28.

The 10-month-old Michigan kitten has officially clawed his way into the Guinness World Records books after veterinarians confirmed he has 28 toes, tying the world record for the most toes ever documented on a domestic cat.

Toby, who lives with Delaney Henderson of Lansing, shares the record with a Canadian cat named Jake, whose remarkable paws set the standard back in 2002.

Cats born with extra toes have a condition known as polydactyly, but Toby takes it to another level. Instead of just a couple of bonus “thumbs,” he sports an astonishing 30 claws spread across his oversized paws.

“When I first saw his toes, I really couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Henderson told Guinness World Records. “I already had another polydactyl cat, but nothing could have prepared me for Toby.”

Fortunately, all those extra digits don’t slow him down one bit.

According to his owners, Toby runs, jumps, climbs, and plays just like any other kitten. Aside from needing a few extra minutes during nail-trimming sessions, his unusual feet haven’t caused him any pain or health problems.

Henderson says it wasn’t Toby’s record-setting paws that first won her over—it was his affectionate personality.

“I had a gut feeling when I met him that he was meant to be in my life,” she said. “I’m so grateful to have given him a forever home.”

While most cats leave behind tiny paw prints, Toby practically leaves a footprint.

And if Guinness ever decides to hand out awards for the world’s cutest snowshoes, this Michigan feline may already have the competition covered.
