A woman from Ohio accused of shooting her 12-year-old son in a suicide attempt has reportedly admitted guilt in the case. Briasha Stroud, charged with attempted murder following the disturbing incident more than a year ago, pleaded guilty this week, according to Cincinnati NBC affiliate WLWT and Hamilton County jail records reviewed by Law&Crime.
The event occurred on January 26, 2025, when Stroud and her teenage son were inside a vehicle parked in a garage on Glenway Avenue in Deer Park, just northeast of Cincinnati. Authorities say she shot the boy in the back of the head during the encounter. Her boyfriend later discovered her with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest and signs of an overdose.
A 911 call obtained by local media captures the immediate aftermath. “Where is he shot?” the dispatcher asks. “In the head,” the caller responds. The boyfriend then says, “She’s unconscious. I don’t know if she took pills or what. She’s foaming at the mouth.” As the call continues, he exclaims, “Oh my god,” and confirms the child is still breathing.
The boy survived, but prosecutors have stated his injuries are severe and permanent, significantly altering his future. They noted that if he were to die at any point from complications related to the shooting, Stroud could be charged with murder. Stroud also survived her injuries.
She is scheduled to be sentenced on July 23 and could face decades behind bars.
