Man arrested after leading police on chase in front-end loader
MILLBURY, Mass. —
A man is facing several charges after he allegedly led police on a pursuit while driving a front-end loader on a Massachusetts highway, police said.
Officers were called to the eastbound Route 20 just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a front-end loader driving erratically on the highway.
After officers were unable to find the vehicle, it was later found on Park Hill Avenue, where officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The driver, later identified as Kelvin Ucles-Flores, 21, of Worcester, did not stop and led police on a pursuit, only reaching slow speeds of up to 15 miles per hour.
According to police, Ucles-Flores drove erratically during the pursuit, swerving into oncoming traffic and striking several utility poles.
Kim Jones said part of the incident happened in front of her home.
“A big loader surrounded by cops and they’re yelling at him to get out,” Jones said.
The pursuit ended when the loader drove onto Martin Street, and a police cruiser positioned itself to bring the vehicle to a stop.
Ucles-Flores shut off the front-end loader but did not come outside when asked to by officers, police said.
He was later removed from the front-end loader and arrested.
Jim Blais said he saw police trying to pull the driver over.
“Lights were flashing in our living room, we looked out and there was a tractor coming down and seemed to be escorted by police, blew through the stop and went down Martin Street,” Blais said.
Ucles-Flores is facing several charges. The incident is under investigation.
