Iran’s foreign minister made a notable visit to Russia on Monday as attempts to revive talks with the United States remained stalled.

Abbas Araghchi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg following stops in Oman and Pakistan, both of which have been involved in trying to mediate between Tehran and Washington. During the meeting, Putin said Russia would do all it could to promote stability in the region, adding that Moscow intends to act in ways that support Iran as well as other nations in the area.

Russian media reports did not detail any specific commitments made in private discussions. Meanwhile, Western officials claim Russia has supplied Iran with targeting intelligence related to US forces. At the same time, Putin has sought to reassure President Trump that Russia is not providing that kind of assistance and instead wants to help facilitate negotiations.

Over the weekend, Araghchi had traveled to Pakistan, where he met with US representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. According to Trump, he instructed them at the last minute not to proceed with the trip. Araghchi criticized US efforts in the conflict, saying Washington has not met any of its objectives. He added that this is why Trump is now seeking negotiations, which Iran is open to considering.
