Two Deer Crash Into Two Georgia Businesses at Almost Exactly the Same Time
One invaded an oyster bar while the other locked itself inside a massage-parlor bathroom
Two deer apparently decided to spend a morning enjoying lunch and a massage at a Georgia shopping center.
Unfortunately, neither had an appointment—or understood how doors work.
The bizarre double break-in occurred shortly before 9 a.m. at a Peachtree City shopping plaza, where two bucks crashed through the windows of neighboring businesses almost simultaneously.
Security footage reportedly shows one deer entering Big Daddy’s Oyster Bar and Pub approximately half a second after the other smashed into J Massage next door.
That is either an extraordinary coincidence or the most carefully coordinated deer crime in Georgia history.
The buck visiting Big Daddy’s initially crashed through a window, struck a machine and bounced back outside. Instead of accepting this as a strong suggestion that the business was closed, it circled around and crashed through another glass door.
Once inside, the deer charged through the bar, jumped over one pool table and slid beneath another as employees attempted to direct it toward an exit.
Bar manager Lisa Ritter said she initially heard breaking glass and wondered whether a vehicle had crashed into the building—or whether every liquor bottle had somehow fallen from its shelf at once.
The neighboring deer chose a quieter wellness experience.
After breaking into the massage business, it ran toward the rear of the building and entered a restroom. Employees apparently did not realize their surprise customer was waiting inside until they opened the bathroom door and the buck came charging out.
There has been no confirmation that the deer washed its hooves.
Employees at both businesses eventually guided the animals outside. The buck from the oyster bar crossed a second-floor landing, descended a staircase and disappeared into nearby woods.
No employees or customers were injured. One deer appeared to have suffered a leg injury and lost part of an antler during the chaos, although its condition could not be determined after it escaped.
The synchronized invasion caused thousands of dollars in broken glass and interior damage.
Georgia wildlife officials said the deer may have been frightened by a vehicle, predator or another disturbance. When panicked, deer can mistake reflections in large windows for trees or open woods and attempt to run through them.
The incident occurred months before mating season, leaving officials without a definitive explanation for why two bucks simultaneously charged into separate businesses.
Whatever frightened them, the shopping center can now add several new rules to its posted policies:
No outside food at the oyster bar.
No unattended animals in the restroom.
And all deer must use the front door—which, admittedly, they did.
