Iran has come under scrutiny after educational materials distributed to students were found to contain violent imagery and politically charged content targeting the United States and Israel.
The textbooks, titled “We Defend Our Iran,” were reportedly introduced last year following the country’s setback in a brief 12-day conflict with Israel. The materials, used across elementary through high school levels, include illustrations of missiles, warfare scenes, and depictions of President Donald Trump portrayed in a derogatory manner.
According to the Israeli nonprofit group IMPACT-se, which obtained digital copies from Iran’s education ministry website, the curriculum appears to encourage hostility and promote militaristic ideas among students. The organization’s CEO, Marcus Sheff, said the content reflects an intentional effort to instill animosity toward both the United States and Israel within the classroom.

One lesson cited in the report asks students to calculate how long it would take Iranian missiles to reach Israeli cities, using speed and distance data. Other exercises prompt students to research missile names and meanings, reinforcing a focus on military capabilities.
The books also reportedly refer to the United States as the “Great Satan,” a term long used by Iranian leadership, and include imagery such as rockets aimed at Israeli symbols and scenes suggesting Iranian military dominance. One page references a 2016 incident in which 10 U.S. Navy personnel were detained by Iran after entering its territorial waters.

The materials were released after a period of heightened tensions that included Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets and U.S. strikes on nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Fordow, and Natanz as part of a military operation.
Critics say the textbooks reflect a broader pattern in parts of the region, where school curricula have at times been found to include inflammatory or antisemitic content. A 2021 European Union study, for example, raised similar concerns about materials used in Palestinian schools.
