Authorities say an armed incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday night appears to have been an attempted attack targeting President Donald Trump.
The event was quickly evacuated after gunfire erupted in the lobby when a man tried to push past Secret Service security. The suspect was later identified as 31-year-old Cole Allen, a school teacher from Torrance, California.
During the confrontation, a Secret Service agent was shot and wounded. Officials confirmed that the suspect had checked into the hotel prior to the incident.
