Israel launched continuous missile strikes on Lebanon on Friday, killing at least 14 people, while Hezbollah warned the attacks had only strengthened its resolve ahead of peace discussions planned for next week.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said that 13 of those killed were security personnel working at a government building in the southern city of Nabatieh, which was hit by an Israeli airstrike. Another person died after a strike on the southern town of Hannawiya.
According to reports from the region, the bombardment continued throughout the morning. In addition to Nabatieh and Hannawiya, strikes damaged homes and residential areas in the towns of Hanine and Aita al-Shaab. Other attacks were reported in al-Majadel in the Tyre district.

Lebanon says the broader wave of recent fighting has pushed the death toll in the country to more than 1,950. Hezbollah leaders say the losses have strengthened the group’s determination to continue fighting. Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem said the casualties have only made the organization more committed to what it describes as liberating its land.
Qassem also argued that Israel has not succeeded in launching the ground invasion it had previously threatened and said Israel has repeatedly adjusted its military objectives.
Hezbollah responded on Friday by launching rockets into northern Israel. The group said it carried out a concentrated strike aimed at the Ashdod naval base, describing the attack as retaliation for what it called violations of the cease-fire and continued Israeli strikes on Beirut.

The group had previously halted attacks on Israel during a cease-fire agreement involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Hezbollah resumed its attacks after Israel renewed military operations in Lebanon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that Israeli strikes in Lebanon would continue until Israel’s security is guaranteed. He also stressed that the cease-fire agreement with Iran does not apply to Hezbollah.
Israel recently carried out a series of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah rocket-launching positions in southern Beirut, which Israeli officials said were being prepared for attacks against Israel.

Despite the ongoing fighting, Israeli and Lebanese officials are expected to travel to Washington next week for talks as President Trump pushes for a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Achieving peace between Israel and Lebanon was also one of Iran’s demands during negotiations surrounding the current cease-fire agreement.
