President Trump’s planes are getting a makeover in his preferred colors. Officials tell CBS News that the US Air Force is retiring the Kennedy-era robin’s egg blue-and-white scheme on its presidential and VIP aircraft, replacing it with a palette of dark navy, deep red, gold, and white favored by Trump. According to USA Today, the new design “revives elements” of the color scheme Trump proposed during his first term, which the Air Force rejected in 2022 over concerns that the darker colors could cause overheating.
The updated palette is being applied during routine maintenance to four smaller C-32 jets, which can serve as Air Force Two and transport high-priority personnel such as the first lady or top cabinet officials, CBS reports. The scheme will also be used on two new Boeing 747-8is expected in 2028, as well as a former Qatari 747-8i being refitted to serve as Air Force One as early as this summer. One C-32 has already debuted in the new colors, with images first highlighted by defense site The War Zone.
