A Washington state mother recorded the tense moment she confronted her 16-year-old son after he left class to attend an anti-ICE protest, refusing to get into her car and insisting the demonstration had been permitted by his school.
The video, which spread widely on social media, shows the mother, identified as Rachel, arriving at the protest and telling her son to get in the vehicle. He refuses, saying he has a “right” to be there because the school allowed students to participate.
In the clip, Rachel can be heard saying, “You’re not skipping school for this. Get in the car.”
Her son responds, “No, it is my right,” and begins to walk away.
Rachel replies, “It is not when you are 16. Get in the car right now,” and warns that she may call police because he is subject to truancy rules. The video does not show whether he eventually complied.

Rachel, who used the Instagram handle “Miss Squatch,” later deleted her profile after the footage gained attention online.
The confrontation occurred amid student walkouts across the country protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. Many of the demonstrations were tied to what organizers have called the “National Shutdown” movement, which began on January 30 and encouraged Americans to skip work, school, and shopping as a form of protest.
Similar situations have been reported elsewhere in Washington state. In Auburn, a parent removed her seventh-grade daughter from Olympic Middle School after students participated in a protest that disrupted traffic. Another Washington father reportedly withdrew his son, saying students felt pressure to join the demonstrations.
In Nebraska, a mother has also spoken out after her high school student was struck by a vehicle during an anti-ICE walkout, raising concerns about student safety during these protests.
