A police drone helped Montgomery County officers arrest a man accused of being a serial peeping tom at apartment complexes in Maryland, authorities said.
Police arrested 32-year-old Steven Jarezz Adams of Silver Spring after drone footage allegedly showed him looking into ground-floor apartments and exposing himself, according to a Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) news release. Officers from three district Special Assignment Teams attempted to take Adams into custody, but he fled on foot before being quickly apprehended, police said.
Investigators said the incidents began on Christmas Eve around 3:46 a.m., when Adams allegedly stood outside a home’s sliding glass door and exposed himself to a woman. He reportedly returned to the same block on Jan. 7 at about 6:40 p.m., when another woman noticed his shadow through her window blinds. Later that night, around 10:30 p.m., a neighbor using a flashlight reportedly saw Adams through a sliding glass door.
The situation escalated on Jan. 15, police said. A resident received a motion alert from his security camera around 7:05 p.m. and discovered Adams on his patio. When the homeowner confronted him, Adams allegedly pulled out a knife and swung it before running away.
Detectives later linked the incidents to Adams through their investigation, police said. After securing an arrest warrant, officers tracked him to an apartment complex, where drone surveillance allegedly captured him committing the offense.
Adams is charged with indecent exposure, peeping tom offenses, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and trespassing. He is being held without bond.
According to Bethesda Today, Adams was previously taken into custody in 2022 on peeping tom allegations.
