WATCH: ICE Agent Nails Rioter in the Face With a Pepperball at Close Range as Chaos Erupts in Minnesota

Chaos broke out in Minneapolis on Wednesday after federal immigration enforcement agents deployed non-lethal crowd-control measures to disperse a hostile group following a fatal shooting during an ICE operation.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), federal agents were conducting what officials described as “targeted enforcement operations” in the area as part of a surge of roughly 2,000 federal officers into the Twin Cities. During the operation, agents encountered resistance from a group that DHS characterized as rioters who were blocking officers from carrying out their duties.

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said one individual, identified by local sources as a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, attempted to use her vehicle to strike federal agents. Officials said an ICE officer, believing his life and the lives of others were in immediate danger, fired his weapon.

“The officer acted in self-defense to protect himself, fellow law enforcement, and the public,” DHS stated. The driver was struck and later pronounced dead. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem described the incident as an act of “domestic terrorism.”

Following reports of the shooting, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in the neighborhood. Tensions escalated into confrontations between protesters and federal agents, who used pepper spray, flash-bang devices, and pepperball rounds to push back the crowd.

By midday, the area had effectively become a standoff zone. Video shared online by X user Dymanh Chhoun appears to show an ICE agent firing a pepperball round at a protester who authorities say attempted to grab the agent’s weapon.

“Happening right now in South Minneapolis near Portland Avenue and 34th Street,” Chhoun wrote. “People are protesting a shooting that occurred earlier today.”
